WASHINGTON - The Senate voted to close debate on a five-year farm bill late Monday afternoon paving way for its passage Tuesday.
The bill is expected to pass easily and set argiculture and nutrition policy through 2018. Passage would mark the thrid time the Senate has passed a farm bill since 2012 when the 2008 farm bill expired. Disagreements over cuts to food stamps held up passage in the House until last week.
The Senate motion to close debate and move to approval on a bill produced by a Senate-Houise conference committee passed overwhelmingly with Minnesota's senators, Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, voting for it.
