There's been no shortage of local media coverage already for the new Trampled by Turtles album, which is still more than a month away. The buzz is building nationally, too.

NPR just premiered the video for "Are You Behind the Shining Star?," the first single from "Wild Animals," which will finally arrive July 15. The clip (posted below) blends grainy black and white footage with colorful celestial imagery befitting the song, which local fans might recognize from its more electric and rocky form on frontman Dave Simonett's solo EP from last year, "Razor Pony." Interesting to hear the musical differences.

Paste magazine also recently got in on the "Wild Animals" roll-out, unveiling the title track of the record along with a video vignette set to another of the new songs, "Lucy."

It sounds like this is just the start. The band is reportedly lining up a media blitz around the week of the album's release, including another late-night TV gig. Stay tuned. The guys have already started touring for the summer but will be home for a few stretches, with time for Simonett and banjo man Dave Carroll to slip in a duo set opening for Nikki Bluhm at the Cedar Cultural Center. Then, of course, there's also the big Bayfront Festival Park gig in Duluth with Doomtree, Low and Haley Bonar on June 28.
