School garden contest More schools are planting gardens to teach kids the connection between homegrown food and good health.

Annie's, which makes natural and organic food and snacks, is giving five schools $1,500 each to expand an existing garden and 10 schools $500 to help start a garden. The grand prize winner will be awarded $2,500, a toolshed full of gardening supplies, a day of hands-on training, in-school celebration event and a chance to create a magazine by partnering with Annie's Organic Gardening Magazine.

'Roses and Rain' at the Arb Minnesota folk band Locklin Road will perform at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to celebrate the release of its fifth CD, "Roses and Rain." The Music in the Garden concert will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the MacMillan Terrace. Bring a picnic dinner and listen to country and folk songs by singer Sheri O'Meara inspired by walks at the arboretum. CDs will be available for $10.
