SPA boys edge Lourdes in hockey

BOYS' HOCKEY

• ST. PAUL ACADEMY 2, ROCHESTER LOURDES 1 (OT): After giving up a late first-period goal, the Spartans tied it on Drew Blackmun's goal at 7:16 of the third period to force overtime. Freshman forward Riley Bowman scored 1:34 into the extra period for St. Paul Academy.

• TARTAN 5, SIMLEY 3: The Titans scored three unanswered goals in the final period to overcome the Spartans in a Classic Suburban showdown. Five different players scored for the Titans, who were able to stay out of the penalty box the entire game. Senior Brady O'Sullivan led Tartan with three points.

• SOUTH ST. PAUL 5, HENRY SIBLEY 4: Brenden Shanley's second goal of the game gave his team a two-goal lead in the third period as the host Packers held off the Warriors in a Classic Suburban matchup. Cole Lucken scored twice for Henry Sibley.

• STILLWATER 4, WOODBURY 3: Devin Cates scored on a power play with less than three minutes to go in the third period to boost the Ponies past the Royals in a Suburban East game. Senior forward Jack Glaeser led Woodbury with two points. The Ponies outshot the Royals 44-16.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

• LAKEVILLE NORTH 4, BURNSVILLE 0: Junior defenseman Taylor Flaherty notched two goals to lead the Class 2A, No. 7 Panthers in a shutout over South Suburban rival Burnsville. The Panthers outshot the Blaze 33-11 to improve to 11-3-2 and secure first place in the conference.

• EAST RIDGE 2, PARK OF COTTAGE GROVE 0: Sophomore forward Katherine Scheibner scored twice in the second period to lead the Raptors, who outshot the Wolfpack 43-8. Park goalie Paige Press had 41 saves.

• CHAMPLIN PARK 4, ANOKA 1: Sophomore Kaleigh Martinson's hat trick enabled the Rebels to upend the Tornadoes in a Northwest Suburban game. Gabby Paulsrud added a power-play goal for Champlin Park at 7:48 into the third period. Junior forward Hailey Miller scored the lone goal for Anoka.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

• HOLY FAMILY 83, MINNETONKA 78: The Fire rode a 25-point performance from senior forward Joe Hanel to beat the Skippers at home. Brent Hentges added 20 for the Class 3A, No. 3 Fire. Delshon Strickland led Minnetonka with 24 points and was one of three Skippers in double figures.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

• WHITE BEAR LAKE 66, LAKEVILLE NORTH 54: Sophomore guard Alison Hinch was the catalyst for the Bears as they outscored the Panthers 41-26 in the second half to overcome a three-point halftime deficit. Hinch scored a game-high 16 points for the Class 4A, No. 5 Bears, who won their second game in as many days. Teammate Kate Brabenec added 15 points. The Panthers, ranked ninth in 4A, have lost three of their past six games.
