A section of westbound Interstate 94 has reopened Saturday after a rollover crash injured four men and closed three lanes of traffic for hours.

The State Patrol says driver Juan L. Diaz-Pliego, 27, of Minneapolis lost control of his 2005 Dodge Neon just after 9 a.m. Saturday and rolled into the right side ditch of I-94 at 20th Avenue, near the Cedar Avenue exit. The State Patrol says road conditions were dry at the time of the crash, but alcohol was detected on Diaz-Pliego and two of his passengers.

The car remained upside down on its hood in the ditch as crews worked to clear the scene, shutting down three westbound lanes of the busy interstate for about three hours and backing up traffic from Cedar Avenue to Hwy. 280 until about noon.

Diaz-Pliego suffered noncritical injuries and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Passengers Narciso L. Hernandez, 41, of St. Paul, and Angel Estudillo-Delgado, 21, also suffered noncritical injuries and were taken to HCMC, the State Patrol said. A third passenger, Celestino Hernandez-Gutierrez, 25, of Minneapolis, suffered serious injuries.

Alcohol was detected on Diaz-Pliego, Hernandez and Estudillo-Delgado, the State Patrol said. Hernandez was wearing a seat belt, but Estudillo-Delgado and Hernandez-Gutierrez weren't wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol.

It's unknown if the driver, Diaz-Pliego, was also wearing a seat belt. According to public records, Diaz-Pliego's numerous traffic convictions include reckless driving and speeding.
