The Robbinsdale Area School District and its teachers union have approved a new two-year contract.

Teachers will receive 2 percent raises each year. The district also agreed to increase its share of insurance contributions and form labor-management committees to look into early childhood education programs and the impact of the new state antibullying law.

The school board approved the contract on April 23. Members of the Robbinsdale Federation of Teachers ratified it on April 17 with a 94 percent yes vote. The contract runs from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2015.

"We have some of the best teachers in the state working for our district," Superintendent Aldo Sicoli said in a written statement. "Having a contract that works for all parties is an important step to meet the student academic goals of the district."
