A man trying to evade police drove the wrong way on Nicollet Avenue and Interstate 494 Sunday afternoon before fleeing on foot and being struck by another vehicle as he ran into traffic on the interstate.

The 33-year-old Richfield man was wanted in connection with a report of criminal sexual conduct that occurred shortly after noon on the 600 block of American Boulevard W. in Bloomington, police said.

He fled when police attempted to pull him over, driving northbound on Portland Avenue before officers executed a PIT maneuver — a tactic used by police to stop fleeing vehicles with minimal risk to the driver, the police and the public — and spun out his vehicle. The man briefly got out of the vehicle but then re-entered and fled westbound on 78th Street to northbound Nicollet, where he crossed over the interstate and traveled the wrong way onto the eastbound exit ramp for Nicollet, then continued the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-494.

After colliding with two vehicles, the man fled on foot, jumping over the I-494 median and running into westbound traffic, where he was struck by another vehicle. He was arrested at the scene, Bloomington police said.

Two motorists suffered noncritical injuries during the chase. The suspect did not appear to have suffered any injuries, police said.
