Golfers hoping to play another round on the scenic Mississippi National Golf Links in Red Wing better book tee times soon. Playing 18 holes on the picturesque course south of Red Wing may soon be a thing of the past.

The Rochester Post-Bulletin reported earlier this month that the future of the 36-hole course was put in doubt when owner Wendell Pittenger sent a letter to club members telling them that he intends to close the financially-troubled course Nov. 1.

"It's all up in the air in terms of who's going to run it, but it's not going to be turned into an immediate goat pasture," the course's golf director, Jim Kanavas, told the paper.

The Red Wing City Council will discuss the course's fate at 7 p.m. Monday in the city hall council chambers.
