Quick Q&A

MITCH JOHNSON
LAKEVILLE SOUTH, SR., TENNIS

A lot of tennis players look up to Johnson. The former Cougars boys' basketball player stands 6 feet, 6 inches tall. Here is a closer look at Johnson, who has played both singles and doubles for the Cougars this season:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Lone Survivor." It really made me proud to live in a country where men and women will fight that hard for our freedom.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Tall, childish and relaxed.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are … "Soldier" by Gavin DeGraw; "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus; "Year 300" by the Jonas Brothers.

How did you get started in sports? I started playing tennis because my mom played in college, and I also wanted to do that. I started playing basketball because I was always tall, and it was a natural fit.

What do you work on most prior to the start of the tennis season? My serve and having a stronger mental game.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school tennis player? Getting third place in doubles in the individual portion of the section [Class 2A, Section 1] tournament, and being one match away from going to state last year.

What is your goal for the remainder of your final high school season? Make it to the state tournament with my doubles partner, junior Spencer Linse.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Stay focused and never give up because losing hurts the most when you think you've won.
