Public and private memorial services are set for Ruth Berg, the Minnehaha Academy receptionist who was one of two people killed last week in a natural gas explosion at the school.

The public is invited to remember the 47-year-old Berg at Minnehaha's lower school in Minneapolis on Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for visitation, with a service to follow at 5 p.m., Berg's fiancé, Mark Burrington, said Wednesday. He said he would like attendees to bring photos of Berg to the service at the faith-based private school at 4200 West River Pkwy.

A second service only for family and close friends is scheduled for Aug. 19 at Bradshaw Funeral and Cremation Services, 3131 Minnehaha Av.

John Carlson, 82, also died in the Aug. 2 blast. A private service was held for the beloved custodian on Sunday.

Bryan Duffey, a full-time custodian and assistant boys soccer coach who was hurt in the blast, remains hospitalized in serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

According to his CaringBridge page, he has had three surgeries, including the amputation of his right leg. His wife, Jamie, wrote that he was found by two responding officers and an off-duty deputy who lives nearby and that they removed a column that landed on top of him, "followed by a wall that they removed brick by brick."

"The men needed to uncover Bryan's entire lower body in order to get him to safety," she wrote. "I am overwhelmed thinking about how blessed we are to have had these men there and to have Bryan still with us today."
