Vaughn scores 51 in loss• MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 96, ROBBINSDALE COOPER 94 (OT): Rashad Vaughn scored 51 points, but it still wasn't enough to lift Cooper as the Hawks lost to Maranatha Christian in overtime on Tuesday. Maranatha's Isaiah Hanson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 79 and send the game to overtime. Maranatha took the lead in overtime with six consecutive points from Hanson, who finished with a team-high 41. "It's a big win for our guys," Maranatha coach Jeff Wall said. "We just stayed with it. Cooper was hitting shots, but we battled. And at the end of overtime, we showed a lot of poise."

• PARK CENTER 73, OSSEO 62: Quinton Hooker scored 34 points as the host Pirates won their second game against a top-ranked foe this season -- Apple Valley was the other -- and improved to 8-0.

• APPLE VALLEY 73, HOPKINS 64: It was "No Tyus, no problem" for Class 4A, No. 3 Apple Valley as the Eagles beat No. 6 Hopkins despite star Tyus Jones going down because of a back injury before even registering a point. Reports from the MSHSL suggest Jones' pain was "severe," and that he hadn't practiced in a week and has been battling the injury for multiple weeks. Dustin Fronk shouldered the load for the Eagles with 27 points.

• DELASALLE 82, BROOKLYN CENTER 49: Junior forward Reid Travis scored 30 points -- including six dunks -- and grabbed eight rebounds as the Islanders won their home opener.

• FRIDLEY 71, ST. PAUL HARDING 62: Kenny Reed paced three Tigers in double figures with 20 points, as the Tigers handed the Knights its second loss of the season. Michael Murray scored 17 points for the Knights.

• CHAMPLIN PARK 79, CENTENNIAL 67: The Rebels rode a big second half to victory as the teams were deadlocked at 33 at halftime. Four Rebels scored in double figures, with JT Gibson leading the way with 18. Dan Becken had 18 points for the Cougars.

• ST. CLOUD TECH 78, ROGERS 71 (OT): Free throws set the tone for the Tigers in the victory, as the team was a collective 34-for-37 from the line on the evening. All 10 OT points came via free throws as well, with Andy Foley sinking each of them.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Eagan relies on balance• EAGAN 64, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 40: Dani Bischoff and Bryn Parsons paved the way for the Wildcats, scoring 17 and 15 points, respectively, as Eagan beat Bloomington Jefferson. The Jaguars, who suffered their second loss of the season, had five players score but none in double figures.

• CENTENNIAL 57, CHAMPLIN PARK 39: Alli Zopfi's game-high 16 points weren't enough for the Rebels, as the Cougars -- powered by 10 points apiece from Daizjah Morris and Jasmin Bretoi -- pulled out the victory.

• PRIOR LAKE 58, ROSEMOUNT 50: Shaye Barton, Tiffaney Flaata and Deanna Busse combined to score 44 of the Lakers' 58 points in a victory over the Irish. Ellie Vraa, Hannah Grim, and Meghan Schuster had 10 points apiece for Rosemount.

• COLUMBIA HEIGHTS 52, FRIDLEY 46: It was a historic victory for the Hylanders, as seven-plus years had passed since they had beaten the Tigers, according to coach Chris Buerman.

BOYS' HOCKEY

Goalie makes 42 saves• CENTENNIAL 5, DULUTH EAST 2: The Cougars scored three goals in the second period and two in the third in a victory over the Greyhounds. Four Centennial skaters had multiple points, led by Ryner Gorowski (one goal, two assists). Patrick Munson made 42 saves in the win.

• EAGAN 4, BURNSVILLE 2: Two third-period goals provided the margin of victory for the Wildcats, as Zach Glienke (three assists), Will Peterson (one goal, one assist) and Cullen Willox (two goals) each tallied multiple points. Chris Mallon turned aside 30 shots for the Blaze in the loss.

• PRINCETON 3, MONTICELLO/ANNANDALE/MAPLE LAKE 1: Jake Green, Chase Lindenfelser, and Dan Muench each scored a goal and Max Mattson made 23 saves for the Tigers. Colton Jones scored the lone goal for Monticello.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

Anoka shuts out Elk River• ANOKA 3, ELK RIVER/ZIMMERMAN 0: Molly Scarborough stopped all 21 shots she faced, and Emilie Brigham had two goals and an assist as the Tornadoes shut out the Elks.

• HOLY ANGELS 2, ST. LOUIS PARK 0: Abby Welsch and Jessica Block had a goal apiece, and Caroline Riester was flawless in goal as Stars shut out the Orioles.

• BUFFALO 3, WAYZATA 2: Madi Jewell netted the game-winning goal at 1:27 in the second period as the Bison beat the Trojans. Katie Rooney had two goals for Buffalo, with Lindsay Roethke assisting both.

• MAPLE GROVE 2, CENTENNIAL 0: Maddie Woo had both goals in the Crimson's victory. Breanna Blesi got the shutout, turning away all 23 Centennial shots.
