GABLE STEVESON

Apple Valley • wrestling

This sort of thing just doesn't happen in a championship match.

Steveson, who had won consecutive Class 3A individual titles at 220 pounds in 2015 and 2016, took the mat Saturday evening for the 2017 heavyweight championship match against Anoka's Brandon Frankfurth, a very good wrestler in his own right.

The pair shook hands, the whistle to start the match was blown and the wrestling commenced. Eleven seconds later, it was over. Steveson had just recorded his 41st pin in 42 matches in stunning fashion.

Gasps throughout Xcel Energy Center all carried a "Did you see that?" tone.

It was nothing new for Steveson, however. The junior hasn't lost a high school match since the eighth grade and owns a pair of World Cadet Championship titles. Being the baddest dude in the ring is what fuels his fire.

"I know that people are looking at me and that I've been dominant," Steveson said. "It just makes me want to go out and be even more dominant."

Minnesota high school wrestlers, you've been warned.
