The Inver Grove Heights City Council last week approved plans by Power Dynamics to move to a facility currently owned by Inver City Printing, with the move including a small production operation.

Power Dynamics' main business is selling and distributing gaskets to repair and contractor firms, but the company also has a very small gasket manufacturing unit.

The council decided that Power Dynamics could be considered mainly a wholesale office and showroom, a permitted use for the building at 7365 Concord Blvd., which the company plans to buy from Inver City Printing. The council added a condition suggested by the planning commission that no more than 20 percent of Power Dynamics' floor space could be used for manufacturing.

Chiropractic clinic expands

The Joint, a nationwide chain of franchised chiropractic clinics, is expanding to Apple Valley.

The new center will be next to Cole's Salon in Southport Center, in the space formerly occupied by Jay F. Jeweler before that business moved to Times Square.

The Joint currently has centers in Eagan, St. Paul, Plymouth, Roseville and Maple Grove. In addition to Apple Valley, the chain also has plans to add centers in Woodbury and Minnetonka.

The Joint offers services from licensed chiropractors on a walk-in basis. Clients can pay for individual appointments or sign up for a plan that allows as many as four visits a month.

Small business contest

The River Heights Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Pawn America Minnesota, Payday America, Xcel Energy and Dakota Electric Association, is conducting its first Small Business Makeover Contest.

The competition concludes Nov. 15 and will award one small business or entrepreneur up to $20,000 in goods and services donated by several area firms.

Entrants must be chamber members — including new members — in the River Heights region. Their business must be at least three years old and have 25 or fewer employees. To apply, go to www.RiverHeightsBizMakeover.com or call the chamber at 651-451-2266.

The applicants' business name and video/photo will be put online in a poll that will run Nov. 18-27 on the contest website. The chamber will choose three finalists based on the online poll.

The winner will be announced Dec. 17 at the chamber's Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.
