Since 1943, three generations of the Kozlak family have been at the helm of this Northeast institution, running a steaks-and-chops shop beloved for all kinds of reasons, including a big-old Sunday brunch buffet, and the cozy Aquarium Bar and its casual menu. A true sign of spring? When the patio's trout stream is open for business (usually in April) and diners can net their own dinner. Early birds can select from seven options ($16 to $26), served 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday and Tuesday through Friday.

June marks the 70th anniversary of this destination for brick-pit barbecue, now in its third generation of family ownership. "Actually, I don't own this place," said co-owner Anthony Polski. "I'm just preserving it for the next generation." Go for the pork ribs and the sliced brisket, and the late-night hours, with the full menu served to midnight Monday and Tuesday, and to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Polski is launching his food truck April 15-17 at Fulton Brewing (414 6th Av. N., Mpls., 612-333-3208, fultonbeer.com) near Target Field.

Murray's

The Murray family's house of hospitality, three generations strong, is also marking its 70th birthday this year (Aug. 5, 1946, to be exact), meaning diners should celebrate with its signature Silver Butter Knife Steak for two, a carved-tableside extravaganza ($105) that includes all kinds of add-ons. (Hint: Get the au gratins.) The early bird special is pretty special: three courses for $30, served 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
