After a light dusting of snow Friday, winds up to 50 miles per hour are predicted to blow more snow across Minnesota Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Fast winds are predicted to sweep across much of the state Sunday and into Monday, pushing 2 to 3 inches of snow from the Twin Cities beyond Hinckley and over to Alexandria.

Duluth is predicted to get 3 to 4 inches, part of a heavier band of snow stretching into northern Wisconsin. St. Cloud and most of the southwestern part of the state will see less snow — an inch or two — but stronger winds could whip up snow that is already on the ground.

The NWS predicts possible blizzard conditions with wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour across the western side of the state.

Star Tribune meteorologist Paul Douglas predicts most of the metro area will only get 1 inch to 2 inches, with 2 or 3 falling over much of the western and southern portion of Minnesota. Douglas also predicted strong winds, which could make for unsafe driving conditions outside of the metro area.
