Authorities Monday identified the man who fatally shot two fellow employees in the break room of a Brooklyn Park grocery store before killing himself as Aaron L. Parson, 23, of Brooklyn Park.

Parson died Friday night of a gunshot wound to the head, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. His body was found near the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, where he fled after shooting Michael Habte, 21, and Habte's girlfriend, Abigail M. Fedeli, 20, both of Brooklyn Park. Habte and Fedeli were on duty at Festival Foods when the shootings occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday. Parson, who did not have a criminal record, was off-duty.

Andrew Hawkinson, a friend of Habte's since first grade, said that Parson used to date Fedeli, and that Habte, the new boyfriend, respected that previous relationship.

Hawkinson said that Habte and Fedeli had tried to keep their relationship "quiet." But Hawkinson added that he had no reason to believe -- based on his conversations with Habte -- that it was because of any fears about Parson.

Fedeli was shot once in the neck, according to the medical examiner. Habte died while in surgery at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale; he had been shot multiple times, the medical examiner said.

Parson's body was found near the Washington Avenue Bridge not long after the killings.

Tom Clasen, vice president of operations for Knowlan's Super Markets Inc., which operates Festival Foods, has described the three workers as "long-term, current employees who were well-respected."

On Monday, Brooklyn Park police inspector Todd Milburn said that investigators had no new details to share about the shootings or about the relationships of those involved: "We're still piecing it all together," he said.

Reports in the case are not likely to be made public for at least a couple of weeks, Milburn said.
