Citing fire risks, Polaris Industries updated a prior recall notice Tuesday by saying that more problems existed with its previously recalled RZR four-wheelers.

The Medina-based maker of rugged off-road vehicles, motorcycles and snowmobiles issued its notice in conjunction with the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Tuesday's notice, which comes after recalls of hundreds of thousands of Polaris vehicles in recent years, warned that recalled RZR 900 and 1000 vehicle models are still experiencing fire problems on some models spanning 2013 to 2017.

"These fires have caused death, serious injuries and property damage," the notice said. "Most of these vehicles [133,000] were voluntarily recalled by Polaris in April 2016 to address fire hazards. However, users of the vehicles that were repaired as part of the April 2106 recall continue to report fires, including total loss fires."

While 2017 RZRs were not included in last year's recall, "these models have also experienced fires," the CPSC and Polaris said.

The CPSC is advising Polaris consumers to report any fire or overheating incidents to the CPSC Hotline (800) 638-2772 or to www.SaferProducts.gov.

Typically, the CPSC warns customers to cease riding the vehicles immediately and to take them to an authorized dealership for free repairs, but the joint letter issued Tuesday did not include the usual wording.

It also was unclear how many vehicles are included in the joint warning to Polaris customers.

Polaris stock fell 1.6 percent to close at $123.65 Tuesday. Polaris has now recalled more than 450,000 vehicles altogether, some for the second and third time.
