Adrian Peterson made his first public comments Friday since the Pro Bowl running back skipped the Vikings mandatory minicamp two weeks ago when he addressed the media at his annual football camp at the University of Oklahoma.

Peterson was asked about his absence from the minicamp, which was met with public criticism from Coach Brad Childress, who did nothing to hide his frustration. Peterson missed all four practices while attending the fourth annual Adrian Peterson Day in his hometown of Palestine, Texas.

Peterson told the Tulsa World in this story that he does not regret missing the camp but that he has discussed the situation with team officials.

"It's over with," Peterson told the paper. Peterson was asked whether he is upset that he got publicly scolded for missing the camp while quarterback Brett Favre was allowed to stay home. "No, not at all," Peterson said. "It had nothing to do with Brett Favre. If anyone deserves any kind of leeway, it's definitely Brett Favre. He's been there 20 years, a Hall of Fame quarterback. I'm not on the same level as him." There has been speculation that Peterson skipped the minicamp because he is unhappy with his contract situation. Judd addressed that topic in this previous blog post. Peterson's contract was not part of the Tulsa World story and it's unclear whether that subject came up during the interview. Peterson told the paper that "I pray each night" that Favre returns for another season, which everyone expects. Update (7:50 p.m.): The Oklahoman website had a bit more information Friday evening on what Peterson had to say about his minicamp absence. Peterson called the situation "bad timing" adding, "But it worked out. Everything's OK. It's behind me. In the past."

Peterson added that he talked to Childress and owner Zygi Wilf and that everything is smoothed over.
