All lanes on southbound Hwy. 52 in St. Paul have reopened after being closed for about an hour while crews cleaned up a crash that involved an overturned semitrailer truck.
Ramps leading to Hwy. 52 from both directions of Interstate 94 and from southbound Interstate 35E also were closed but have since reopened, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.
A semitrailer truck carrying recycled car parts tipped over on southbound Hwy. 52 at Plato Blvd. just south of the Lafayette Bridge around 11:50 a.m. Monday. It is believed that the truck fishtailed and clipped a guardrail before it rolled over, spilling its load. The truck landed on the right shoulder.
At first, one lane of Hwy. 52 was open to traffic, but authorities shut down the highway between downtown St. Paul and Plato Blvd. just before 1 p.m. to allow crews to clean up the mess and get the truck upright. It was reopened at about 1:40 p.m.
The truck driver sustained a minor injury, the State Patrol said.
Meanwhile, authorities briefly closed eastbound I-94 at County Road 81 in Maple Grove following a multi-vehicle crash that happened at 1 p.m.
Traffic is now being allowed past the scene single-file fashion as medical personnel and fire crews attend to the injured. At one time air care was requested, a MnDOT spokesperson said.
Traffic jammed up for miles to the St. Michael/Hwy. 241 exit behind the wreck, which involved up to five vehicles.
