Osseo is a step closer to getting a new police station.

Last week, the City Council approved the concept plan for an addition onto City Hall to house the department, replacing a deteriorating 51-year-old house it's been located in for nearly 20 years.

It will cost an estimated $878,000 to remove the old building, reconfigure the parking lot and build a 3,500-square-foot addition, which includes a three-vehicle garage, booking area, office space, conference room and reception area. The city is also paying Buetow 2 Architects $41,000 for the design development.

With final approval by the City Council later this year, construction could start in May, and the department's staff of 20 could move into the new space by mid-October.
