New Prague is keeping all of its options open. It doesn't want its athletic programs not to have a future conference home.

The Trojans are currently in the Missota Conference, which recently voted to officially disband after the 2013-14 school year. There are eight schools in the conference.

New Prague has applied for membership into the newly forming Metro West Conference. That conference includes Bloomington Jefferson, Bloomington Kennedy, Chanhassen, Chaska, Cooper, Richfield and St. Louis Park.

At a recent school board meeting, athletic/activities director Brad Skogerboe was directed to submit membership applications to two more conferences — Big Nine and Wright County.

"We feel these three conferences would offer us the best situation for our student-athletes due to their levels of play; competition level; and [in some cases] travel distances," Skogerboe said. "The Wright County currently has 11 schools and we thought that they might want to make it an even number for scheduling purposes. We currently play some of these schools in nonconference events and, so it just made sense to add them to the mix."

If the school is denied membership by three conferences, the Minnesota State High School League has a process to place schools in a conference.

Blaze select mentor

Burnsville has hired Larissa Parr as its varsity girls' basketball coach for the 2013-14 season. She was an assistant coach in the program.

Burnsville athletic director Jeff Marshall said in a news release, "Larissa was an excellent player in high school and in college and has been able to transfer her knowledge, skills, and passion for the game into her coaching. She has done a tremendous job previously of guiding and leading female athletes to success both on and off the court."

Raymond has previously served as an assistant coached at Eagan and Augsburg College. She also served as a member of Eastview's volleyball staff.

Top performances

• Junior Grant Erickson threw a no-hitter in his first varsity start as Northfield's baseball team shut out Albert Lea 1-0 in nonconference play. The righthanded Erickson, mixing his fastball and curveball to near perfection, struck out 10 and walked two.

• Another junior, Sheldon Miks of Shakopee, was a one-man wrecking crew in the Sabres' doubleheader sweep over Chanhassen in Missota Conference baseball action. Miks went 4-for-5, including two doubles, with two RBI in a 12-2 victory in the first game. Miks then hurled a one-shutout in an 8-0 victory in the nightcap. He struck out 10 and walked one.
