Ah, capitalism in the 21st century.

On ESPN's "College GameDay" in Bristol, Tenn., Saturday morning, an enterprising fan held a sign that said,"Hi, Mom! Send beer money." And just to make it easier for Mom, he added his username on Venmo, a mobile payment service.

And the money started rolling in:

The amount isn't known, but by midafternoon, according to Venmo, more than 2,000 donations had been made to one Sam Crowder.

But maybe Sam should wait a day or two before buying that beer. According to this, Venmo payments don't go through until the next business day. Until then, those generous donors could hit "cancel."
