Schanfield, Fannie age 97, of St. Louis Park, passed away February 14, 2014. Preceded in death by her husband, Abraham. Survived by children, Moses, David (Kath- ryn), Miriam (Mark) Kieffer; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Schwartz, Samantha Jane Bergren (Dan), Abby Schanfield & Adam Kieffer and many other loving relatives and friends. Mother of three children, had a history of blending household duties with community service for a variety of organizations and personal development. As a Minneapolis resident, she helped organize the Minneapolis chapter of Gold Star Wives during WWII, she served as Vice-President and Director of Community Housing Services, researcher and advocate for the Hunger in Hennepin County program, and secretary for the Joint Religious Legislation Coalition. Her work for specific Jewish causes found her serving as a Life member and Chapter President of Hadassah; a member of the Board of Directors, Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Greater Minneapolis; and Chair of the JCC Older Adult Need Committee. Current involvement continued with her support of such national and local organizations as the United States Holocaust Museum, Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America, the Minnesota Jewish Historical Society, and the Minneapolis Chapter of Brandeis University of Women. She sat on the Knollwood Place Tenant Council Board as its Past President. Funeral service 11 am Tuesday at ADATH JESHURUN CONGREGATION, 10500 Hillside Lane West, Minnetonka.
