McLain, Harley James 1951-2014 Our fun-loving, compassionate, and joyous father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Harley James McLain died unexpectedly in ND early Sunday, Feb. 9. He was 62. He is predeceased by his darling wife, Julie Goeller McLain, parents the Rev. Bernard and Kathy McLain, niece Summer Skye. Survived by beloved children: Molly McLain (Aaron Barth) of Fargo, ND, Mira McLain (Ben Simonson), and Matthew McLain of Valley City, ND; siblings: Christeen McLain of Fargo, ND, Frank (Cere) McLain of Livingston, MT, Mary McLain (Barry Bram) of Mill Valley, CA, Faith (Wolfgang) Kirchdorfer, Livingston, and JB (Kris) McLain of Minneapolis. Songwriter, champion of peace, organic farmer, carpenter, musician, Harley's endeavors showed the sense of social justice instilled in him by his parents. He ran for public office with the NPL party or Natural People's League and was instrumental in changing unfair ballots. He was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and community theater of Valley City. He is now bringing in the sheaves in the Elysian fields with our Lord. Services will be at the Congregational Church in Valley City, ND: prayer service is Friday, 7 pm, and funeral is Saturday, 11 am. He is deeply missed.
