NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Sophomore Hannah Brandt and juniors Rachael Bona and Meghan Lorence combined for nine points as the No. 1 Gophers women's hockey team wrapped up a nonconference sweep against Yale with a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

Minnesota extended its road winning streak to 37 games, and it has not lost a nonconference game since falling to Boston College 4-1 in the 2011 NCAA Regional. Brandt, Bona and Lorence each recorded a goal and two assists. Freshman Megan Wolfe added her third career goal.

"Overall, it was a great weekend to come out here," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "It was a great trip against a good opponent, and it's nice to be heading back to Minneapolis with two wins."

Similar to Saturday's 5-1 victory, the Gophers took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Wolfe converted on a power-play goal at the 3:22 mark on assists from Bona and senior Sarah Davis before Bona buried a loose puck out front for her eighth goal of the season at 15:24. Brandt capped the first-period scoring with her seventh goal 2:27 later.

"We challenged our kids to be really good in the first period and come out strong since over the last couple Game 2s, we haven't been overly strong in the first period," Frost said. "We really put an emphasis on that with our players, and they responded to the challenge."

Minnesota (15-1-0) extended its lead to 4-0 with its second power-play goal of the game when Lorence scored off a feed from sophomore Milica McMillen and Brandt at 3:58 of the second period. However, Yale (2-7-1) responded with a goal by Jannelle Ferrara less than a minute later.

Minnesota outshot Yale 52-18 Sunday and had a 109-38 advantage for the weekend.
