CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada's newest member of Congress has returned to Las Vegas, where he'll continue his recuperation from six-way cardiac bypass surgery.

Rep. Steven Horsford underwent surgery July 1 at a Virginia hospital after doctors discovered an undetected hereditary condition. He was released from the hospital July 5.

On Friday, Horsford's post-surgery cardiac care was transferred from Inova Heart and Vascular Institute in Fairfax, Va., to physicians in Las Vegas, who will oversee his recovery.

In a statement, the Las Vegas Democrat says he expects to be back at 100 percent soon.

He also says the experience has toughened his resolve to advocate for affordable health care.
