The Twins got through their intrasquad game today with no injuries and plenty to digest. Here are some highlights/observations:

James Beresford was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI. He also executed a perfect hit and run play in the third when he singled through the hole created when Danny Santana went to cover second base. Beresford finished last season at Class AAA Rochester and could be called up if needed during the season.

Phil Hughes was very sharp, throwing four scoreless innings on two hits and four strikeouts. And 20 of his 26 pitches were strikes. He said after the game that he's junking his slider and working on his curveball and cut fastball.

Vance Worley, pitching in his first game sine July, gave up a run over two innings.

Wilkin Ramirez hit a long three-run home run - into a brisk wind - off of Lester Oliveros in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie. Oliveros, who throws hard, missed most of last season due to Tommy John surgery.

Kyle Gibson threw two shutout innings, striking out two while giving up two hits. He twice hit 94 on the radar gun.

Miguel Sano was 0-for-2, reaching on an error in the fourth. Danny Santana was charged with a throwing error into the dirt but Chris Colabello could have picked the ball. Sano has some wheels. The big man was moving down the line. He looked fine in the field, too, starting a double play in the first and throwing out Kurt Suzuki in the fourth,

Byron Buxton was 0-for-3 with a walk and three strikeouts. ``Welcome to Day 1," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.

Gardy was impressed with Max Kepler, who was 2-for-4 with a double. Kepler has really filled out nicely and the Twins hope he has a big year after battling elbow problems last year.
