The former commander of a Nazi SS-led unit who made Minneapolis his home has maintained a regular voting history as a naturalized U.S. citizen.

An Associated Press investigation published Friday found that Michael Karkoc (CAR'-kots) was a leader in the Ukrainian Self-Defense Legion during World War II. The unit is accused of wartime atrocities. The investigation showed Karkoc told American authorities that he performed no military service during the war.

Karkoc has been a naturalized citizen since 1959 and has blended into his community.

Voting history obtained by AP shows he has seldom missed chances to cast a ballot in city and state elections. The records going back to 1993 show him voting in 14 general elections, though never a partisan primary.
