Bombing suspect to face state charges

A Massachusetts court on Monday issued a default arrest warrant for accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev so he can be arraigned on state charges in connection with the killing of an MIT police officer. Tsarnaev, 20, is in federal custody and has pleaded not guilty to numerous charges, including using a weapon of mass destruction. He faces a potential death sentence if convicted. He is accused of helping plant two pressure-cooker bombs near the finish line of the marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others.Tsarnaev is unlikely to appear in state court until the federal case is resolved.

Three arrested in killing of fellow soldier

Three active-duty soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state have been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of another soldier, and police said they are no longer investigating the killing as a hate crime as race does not appear to be the motive, authorities said Monday. The three soldiers were booked into the Pierce County Jail on Monday and are being held in connection with the killing of Tevin Geike, 20, the Lakewood Police Department said in a statement. Formal charges are pending.

Casey Anthony asks judge to block deposition

Attorneys for Casey Anthony have asked her Chapter 7 bankruptcy judge in Orlando to prevent her from having to answer the questions of a woman suing her for defamation, Zenaida Gonzalez. Gonzalez's attorneys scheduled Anthony for a deposition on Wednesday. But in a new motion, Anthony's attorneys argue that Gonzalez's claim lacks merit, and the deposition was scheduled without their consultation.

President faces surgery for blood in her skull

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will undergo surgery Tuesday to remove an accumulation of blood in her skull following a blow eight weeks ago, according to a statement issued by the hospital where she is being treated.
