A dangerous sex offender and convicted killer who shed his electronic monitoring bracelet and fled his St. Paul halfway house was tracked down and arrested two days later near Duluth, authorities said.

Shah-Quran Aziz, 43, remains jailed Monday after his peaceful apprehension on Thursday in the lobby of an apartment complex in Superior, Wis., police said.

Aziz removed the GPS device from his ankle on Feb. 12 before taking off, police said.

Investigators with the Minnesota Department of Corrections determined that Aziz was in Superior and began tracking the vehicle that he had been using, leading to his arrest 150 miles from the St. Paul halfway house, police added.

"Aziz has a long criminal history and was considered a danger to the public," Superior police said in a statement announcing the arrest.

Aziz was classified as a Level III sex offender, meaning he's among those most likely to reoffend. He was convicted in 1999 involving a case in Minneapolis of prostitution and kidnapping.

Corrections officials added that Aziz has a history of kidnapping and forcible sexual contact with females ages 15 and older.

In 1992, he pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree assault for fatally shooting Shannon Dozier, 20, and wounding a woman in north Minneapolis following a dispute with Dozier in the summer of 1991.
