A few weeks ago, the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority launched its Wi-Fi demonstration project by providing Internet service on five buses and at two transit stations.

The agency is testing the system on a limited basis to see how well is operates and determine if there is enough demand for the service.

It that proves true, the free service could be expanded to additional buses and transit stations, said MVTA spokeswoman Robin Selvig.

Wi-Fi is currently available at the Burnsville and Eagan transit stations and on bus numbers 4692, 4693, 4048, 4049 and 4946. Those buses serve a number of MVTA routes, including 436, 440, 445, 460, 464, 465, 470, 472, 477, 480 and 484. The buses that have the service are labeled with a Wi-Fi logo near the boarding door. Here is a schedule of trips.

"In the past six months, more and more riders have asked for this service," said MVTA Board Chair Gary Hansen. "We look forward to rider feedback and to rolling this service out at additional stations and additional buses."

The test period began on Dec. 26 and will run for about 90 days
