A familiar summer-music offering returns to Plymouth Congregational Church in July. The series features free concerts at 7 p.m. for four Tuesday nights at the Minneapolis venue.
The series begins on July 8 with Monroe Crossing, a group named for Bill Monroe, the founding father of Bluegrass music. They play traditional bluegrass, gospel and original work with tight harmonies.
On July 15, Maria Jette, James Bohn, Lisa Drew and Vern Sutton return with one of their favorite gambits: singing music from operettas that were popular a century ago. Sutton will throw a little staging on the performance.
The following week, July 22, contemporary folk artist Jack Pearson performs on guitar, fiddle, banjo, spoons and jawharp, among other instruments. Pearson, based in Minneapolis, has won several awards for his recordings.
The series concludes July 29 with the Copper Street Brass Quintet of Minneapolis. The group claims that it has "transcended the traditional brass quintet."
All concerts begin at 7 p.m., are free and take place inside the church, 1900 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls.
