The MRI on running back Adrian Peterson's right ankle Monday didn't show anything more than a sprain, interim coach Leslie Frazier said today during an interview on 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.

"Now, it's just a matter of what he can or can't do," Frazier said. Frazier indicated he believed Peterson had nothing more than a sprained ankle at his Monday news conference but said at the time the MRI was not complete.

Vikings players are off today and will return to practice Wednesday as they prepare for Sunday's game against Buffalo at Mall of America Field. "We'll know a little more [Wednesday] when he tries to put some weight on it and move around," Frazier said. "So we're anxious to find out how he comes along."

Peterson, who was injured in the second quarter of last Sunday's victory at Washington and did not return, hasn't missed a game since he sat out for two in a row during his rookie season (2007) after suffering a knee injury at Green Bay. It would not be surprising if Peterson does little to no work in practice this week.

Frazier also provided injury updates on defensive end Ray Edwards (sprained right ankle) and Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson (sprained thumb).

On Edwards, Frazier said: "He's similar to Adrian Peterson. We'll kind of have to wait and see how he progesses over the course of the next couple of days."

On Hutchinson, Frazier said: "He's a tough, tough dude. ... Most guys -- I don't think they would have finished that game. But he's a tough guy mentally and physically and it never came up -- 'Hey, coach, I don't know if I can finish.'"
