Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau said WednesÂday she'll reÂlease the reÂsults of an inÂvesÂtiÂgaÂtion into a fatal moÂtorÂcyÂcle acÂciÂdent inÂvolvÂing a poÂlice veÂhiÂcle en route to the house where poÂlice ofÂficÂers shot and killed Terrance Franklin on May 10.
Harteau will hold the news conÂferÂence at 10 a.m. ThursÂday at City Hall.
Franklin's deadÂly fight with ofÂficÂers folÂlowed a draÂmatÂic 90-minÂute chase through a crowdÂed resiÂdenÂtial neighÂborÂhood durÂing which he eludÂed ofÂficÂers who swarmed the arÂeÂa.
A few blocks away, moÂtorÂcyÂclist Ivan RoÂmero OÂliÂvarÂes, 24, died in a crash with a poÂlice veÂhiÂcle that had gone through a red light at 26th Street and BlaisÂdell Avenue S. as it headÂed to the scene. RoÂmero's girlÂfriend, who was ridÂing on the back, was inÂjured.
RoÂmero's moÂtorÂcyÂcle hit the rear quarÂter panÂel of the poÂlice sport-uÂtilÂiÂty veÂhiÂcle drivÂen by ofÂfiÂcer JoshÂuÂa Young, acÂcordÂing to the deÂpartÂment. It's unÂclear how fast the SUV was travÂelÂing secÂonds beÂfore the colÂliÂsion, how fast RoÂmero was travÂelÂing, and whethÂer any othÂer vehiÂcles blocked the drivÂers' views.
The poÂlice veÂhiÂcle had its lights and siÂren acÂtiÂvatÂed at the time of the colÂliÂsion, which ocÂcurÂred about 30 minÂutes afÂter Franklin was shot.
Harteau asked the State Patrol to inÂvesÂtiÂgate the colÂliÂsion; the aÂgenÂcy comÂpleted its acÂciÂdent reÂconÂstrucÂtion reÂport in SepÂtemÂber.
