A local mover is partnering with the Alexandra House to help mothers and children in need this Mother's Day.

The Two Men and a Truck New Brighton office is collecting nonperishable food items as part of the company's "Movers for Moms" annual giving campaign.

Items will go to the Alexandra House, a nonprofit that provides domestic violence and sexual violence services in Anoka County, including a 24-hour emergency shelter, support services and advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

"It makes you feel good. Everyone has a mom," said Two Men and a Truck General Manager Chad Werner. "Everyone is happy to hear about it."

Jenny Green, Alexandra House's shelter program director, said the food items will help families who have left abuse and are working to re-establish themselves.

"It's a huge transition point. The families are coming in with nothing," Green said. "They are getting what we are able to provide them."

Two Men and a Truck is working with a dozen community partners to collect food.
