It should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody that Lynx star forward Maya Moore was named the WNBA Western Conference player of the month for July.

Moore won her fourth consecutive player of the week honor Monday – a league record – and so this one was easy. It is Moore's second such award this season. Moore has won the player of the month award for the Western Conference four out of the last five times; she was so honored for both August and September last season.

(Which, by the way, raises the question: How did Moore NOT win the league's MVP award last season? I suspect that oversight will be corrected this summer).

It is the seventh time a Lynx player has won the award. Lindsay Whalen won it for August 2011, Seimone Augustus in July of 2011 and Rebekkah Brunson in June of 2011.

Moore averaged 26.4 points per game, 8.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists during July, helping the Lynx go 9-1 in the month. She scored a franchise-record 48 points – second-most in a single game in league history – in a double-overtime victory over Atlanta July 22.

Other highlights for the month?

--Moore had 33 points and 11 rebounds vs. Tulsa July 10;

--Moore hit a club-record-tying seven three-pointers in her 48-point game vs. Atlanta.

--She had 20 points and nine rebounds July 31 vs. Phoenix as the Lynx snapped the Mercury's 16-game winning streak.

Moore leads the league in scoring (24.7) and minutes (35.2) and is 8th in rebounding (8.2), 15th in field goal percentage (48.2). She is fourth in the league with 56 three-pointers made and second in free throws made (136).

New York Liberty forward Tina Charles won the player of the month award for the Eastern Conference after averaging 21.1 points and 11.2 rebounds in the month.
