MELBOURNE, Fla. – In a way, Minnesota United FC's preseason results seemed a bit suggestive of the team's performance in its final preseason match.

Instead of moving forward, play kept sliding back in a 2-0 loss to United Soccer League side San Antonio FC on Sunday at Eastern Florida State College. United finished its preseason winless, starting with a five-draw streak and ending with two losses. It will begin its inaugural Major League Soccer campaign Friday at Portland.

Preseason results shouldn't be considered too critically, as many of these matches fielded many of United's nonstarters.

"They'll be a lot better for having 90 minutes of football," said coach Adrian Heath, adding some of the play, like the amount of possession, wasn't too bad. "It served its purpose. It looks like everybody has come through unscathed."

Heath said it was important to have winger Bashkim Kadrii playing for 60 minutes, even though he just arrived Saturday night from figuring out his visa in Denmark. The coach said the same for winger Kevin Molino, who missed Wednesday's match with an illness.

As for some of the unsigned drafted players and trialists who made appearances this game, Heath said the team will decide their futures in the next 48 hours or so. For example, midfielder Tanner Thompson, left-back Thomas de Villardi and injured goalkeeper Alec Ferrell are all unsigned draftees.

De Villardi earned a yellow card and gave up a free kick late in the first half that led to San Antonio defender Cyprian Hedrick's header goal. San Antonio midfielder Devin Vega slotted home another score in a whistle-beater to end the game.

"I think we lacked in a lot of areas today … especially going forward and attacking," Josh Gatt said. "Hopefully we can get it sorted before Portland."
