The Wild plans to bring veteran left winger Ryan Carter to training camp on a professional tryout.

Carter, 33, remains a free agent and can sign with any team, including the Wild — his team the past two seasons — at any time.

Carter, a native of White Bear Lake, has scored 10 goals and 25 points and compiled 103 penalty minutes in 113 games with the Wild. His seven goals last season tied a career best. He ranked sixth with 87 hits, led the team with 48 penalty minutes and had a career-best 37 blocked shots.

U soccer goes to 5-0

The Gophers soccer team remained unbeaten and posted its fourth consecutive shutout Friday, 5-0 over Villanova in Durham, N.C.

Sophomore April Bockin scored twice in the first five minutes of the game, helping Minnesota take a 3-0 halftime lead, and Simone Kolander netted her fifth of the season, on a header in the 60th minute.

Julianna Gernes and Josee Stiever also scored.

"It was a solid performance overall, despite some difficult conditions," coach Stefanie Golan said. "A lot players provided quality minutes and four different Gophers scored."

Minnesota will face No. 7 Duke on Sunday.
