Minnesota United FC on Friday announced the signing goalkeeper Kristian Nicht, who most recently played for the North American Soccer League's Indy Eleven after an extensive European career. Terms were not disclosed.
"Kristian is literally a massive physical presence [6-5, 225] and we've been on the wrong end of his excellent performances numerous times, so we were happy he was available," United coach Carl Craig said. "We were looking for a fellow with experience and one who can potentially push Sammy [Ndjock] for the No. 1 spot, so he fits the bill."
Nicht, 33, signed with the Rochester Rhinos of USL in 2012. He became Indy Eleven's first signing before the team's NASL debut in 2014.
U edges Northwestern
Michael Kroells beat Conan Jennings 11-2 at heavyweight to give the Gophers a 22-20 comeback victory over Northwestern on Friday night in a Big Ten dual meet in Evanston, Ill.
Kroells, rated No. 9 nationally, led only 2-0 going into the third period before he clinching the match on his major decision. Minnesota (8-7, 4-3 Big Ten) has beaten the Wildcats (1-10, 0-6) in 14 consecutive matches.
Brandon Kingsley had a pin at 157 in 31 seconds for the Gophers and No. 3 Brett Pfarr had a 9-4 decision at 197 to get the visitors within two points.
