Leigh Klasse shot a 4-over 76 Thursday at Edina Country Club to earn medalist honors in a qualifying event for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship from Sept. 6-11 in Noblesville, Ind.

Klasse, of St. Anthony, bogeyed five of her first six holes before a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole got her going.

"[I] made a couple birdies on the back side … I figured if I could shoot in the 70s that it would be a pretty good day," Klasse said.

Olivia Herrick, of Roseville, finished second with 77 to advance to her second consecutive U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship. Klasse will play in her 10th.

Claudia Pilot, of Austin, Minn., also advanced with a 78 despite a two-stroke penalty on the 13th hole when her caddie touched the green while showing her the line on her putt.

Katelynn Hogenson, of Ames, Iowa, and Tracy Moen, of Edina, earned the final two qualifying spots after shooting 82 and 83, respectively.
