Former Gopher Liz Podominick finished third in the discus throw at the U.S. Track and Field Championships on Sunday in Des Moines. Podominick had a throw of 199 feet, 1 inch, which trailed first-place Gia Lewis-Smallwood (213-8) and Whitney Ashley (200-9).
Heather Kampf, another former Gopher, finished sixth in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 0.68 seconds. Alysia Montano won in 1:58.67.
Saints lose to Gary in ninth
Cristian Guerrero hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Gary SouthShore RailCats to an 8-7 victory over the St. Paul Saints on Sunday in Gary, Ind. The victory gave Gary a four-game sweep.
