The No. 3 Gophers lost at No. 8 Nebraska 25-21, 25-18, 25-13 on Friday night in Big Ten volleyball. It was the second consecutive loss for Minnesota, which was swept at home by Michigan State last Sunday.
Alexis Hart led the Gophers (12-2, 1-2 Big Ten) with 13 kills and hit .294. Stephanie Samedy had eight kills and Regan Pittman seven for the visitors, who hit .183 to the Cornhuskers' .301.
Three hitters for Nebraska (10-3, 3-0) had 11 kills apiece and a fourth had 10. The Gophers were within a point late in the first set at 22-21, but the Cornhuskers got the next three points
U soccer tops Rutgers
Sydney Squires scored her 10th goal of the season in the 87th minute to give the visiting Gophers a 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Rutgers in Big Ten women's soccer.
Squires' goal for Minnesota (6-2-3, 2-1-1 Big Ten) came from 8 yards out on the right side; April Bockin got the assist. Bockin also set up the Gophers' first goal, scored by Maddie Castro in the 35th minute.
The No. 16 Scarlet Knights (8-1-2, 2-1-1) tied the match at 1-all 2½ minutes later.
Shots were 10-9 in Rutgers' advantage; Kailee Sharp had two saves for the Gophers.

• The Gophers women's cross-country team finished fourth out of 15 teams in Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Blugold Invitational. Minnesota's top individual was redshirt sophomore Abby Lange of Stillwater, who placed 11th in a career-best time of 22:34.5 in the 6K race.
• Linebackers Josh Dalki of Bethel and David Franta of St. John's and safety Isaac Seering of St. Thomas are among the 33 Division III semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy. The award recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation.
• Wisconsin-Superior named Greg Polkowski its interim head men's basketball coach. He was an assistant coach at Wisconsin-Eau Claire the past two seasons.
