Students at Henry High School and Hall elementary can thank Supt. Bernadeia Johnson when unseasonable heat shows up in a few years.

The two school were Johnson's last-minute additions to the list of schools to be air-conditioned by 2019.

Although Johnson started her Minneapolis career at Hall, she insists that favoritism isn't the reason for her decision. Rather she said that factors such as the likelihood that a school will be used for summer school played a role.

Other schools scheduled to be getting cooling by the 2018-2019 school year include Edison, Loring, Sanford, Bancroft, Armatage, and Jefferson. The cost is $75.1 million, out of a total capital spending plan of $560 million during that period, including both ongoing capital programs to maintain and renew school buildings, plus the costs of the district's new five-year enrollment plan.
