Was Monday the end of the Millers' WNBA careers?

It certainly looks that way. The New York Liberty waived Kelly, who was with the team since the start of the season. And the Los Angeles Sparks cut Coco, who they signed about a month.

Both are 12-year WNBA veteran guards. The Millers, of course, are from Rochester, Minn. They led Mayo to two big-school state titles and played with flair and controversy. They once walked off the court in high school because of a dispute with their coach.

As seniors, they led Mayo to a 27-0 record and were considered two of the top prep players in the country.

They played for Georgia in college.

Coco was the ninth pick in the 2001 draft. She played eight seasons with Washington, three with Atlanta and part of this season with L.A. She averaged 2.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists for the Sparks in 11 games. She started one game and averaged 14.1 minutes.

Kelly was the No. 2 pick in the 2001 draft by Charlotte. She played there for three seasons, then it was two at Indiana, three at Phoenix, one with the Lynx (2009). She was at Atlanta in 2010, Washington in 2011 and this season with the Liberty.

Kelly average 1.0 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists for the Liberty. She played an average of 7.5 minutes in 11 games.

Last WNBA offseason, Kelly played in Turkey, Coco was a girls basketball high school coach in Phoenix. They also have a personal training business.

They always liked playing on the same teams together, thought it gave them an edge because they knew each other so well.

So it's certainly odd how they were both cut on Monday.

The Silver Stars made their first nine shots from the field, including three layups and four three-pointers.

Christon finished with a season-high 17 points, Hammon tied a franchise record with seven threes. And as a team San Antonio tied another franchise record by making 13 threes total.

How did the Lynx start? On their first possession, they got three offensive rebounds and missed four shots.

PHOENIX ROOKIE HONORED

Mercury guard Samantha Prahalis was named the WNBA's rookie of the month. She led all rookies with 5.1 assists per game and a 96.3 free throw percentage. She also averaged 13.8 points, second among rookies, and 1.8 steals, third.

Prahalis, the sixth pick in the WNBA draft, had one of her best games in Phoenix's 96-80 loss to the Lynx at Target Center. She had 20 points and three assists.

Prahalis played for Ohio State and has a local connection. She is the niece of Twins coach Scott Ullger.
