NEW YORK – Miley Cyrus cautioned viewers she wouldn't be twerking on "Saturday Night Live." But she commanded the stage on this week's edition of the NBC sketch comedy show, serving as both host and musical guest.
And she did some shimmying as an oversexed U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann in a parody video about the government shutdown.
Cyrus seized attention and criticism in August for her sexually charged MTV Video Music Awards performance, which featured the singer in scanty garb while exhibiting suggestive twerking gyrations. During Saturday's open, Cyrus made sport of the hubbub surrounding her racy display. She joked that she used to think twerking was cool, but changed her mind now that white people are doing it.
Besides her sketches, she performed two songs. Her album, "Bangerz," is out Tuesday.
Halle Berry, 47, has her second child
It's a boy for Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez. A representative for the 47-year-old actress confirms that the couple welcomed their son on Saturday. E! News reports that Berry delivered the baby at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. This is the second child for Berry. She has a 5-year-old daughter with her ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry. The two settled their custody battle over the child in 2012. This is the first child for Martinez. The French actor and Berry married in July.
Fox's kelly moves to prime time: Ask Fox News Channel's Megyn Kelly how her new prime-time program will differ from the edgy news show she had been hosting in the afternoon and she says that "it's going to be dark out." The joke has a serious point. Don't expect Kelly to turn into a fire-breathing partisan because she has more exclusive real estate. "If you watch O'Reilly, you hear a lot about what Bill O'Reilly thinks," she said. "Sean Hannity, same thing. But you're not going to hear what I think." "The Kelly File" is the linchpin to the first overhaul of Fox's prime-time lineup since 2002. Starting Monday, Hannity moves back an hour to 10 p.m. to make room for Kelly at 9, Greta Van Susteren shifts to 7 p.m. and Shepard Smith becomes a roving news anchor.
marathon man: Sean Penn's relief organization will sponsor five runners from Haiti to participate in the New York City Marathon next month. The 53-year old actor expressed satisfaction that the organization continues to rebuild Haiti with its medical, relocation, structural and community development programs — but also that it brings hope to the island nation.
