The Midwest Independent Publishing Association (formerly the Midwest Independent Publishers Association) has announced the winners of the annual Midwest Book Awards. The ceremony was held last night in St. Paul, and 185 books were considered (some nominated more than once) in 42 categories, ranging from poetry and literary fiction to self-help and cookbooks.

Ninety publishers from 12 states participated. Some books won in more than one category, such as Cynthia Kraack's novel, "The High Cost of Flowers," and a compendium about the Minnesota Twins, published by Nodin Press.
