Justice Spriggs threw for a school-record 475 yards and six touchdowns as Hamline rallied for a 42-40 MIAC victory over Gustavus, on Saturday in St. Paul.

The Pipers (3-0, 1-0 MIAC), who trailed 31-21 going into the fourth quarter, are 3-0 for the first time since 1988.

Gustavus (3-1, 1-1), which suffered its first loss of the season, had taken a 38-35 lead with 4 minutes, 13 second remaining on Jamison Beulke's 82-yard TD reception and Brendan Boche's PAT.

Spriggs' final TD pass — a 28-yarder to Harrison Jones with 1:35 remaining — gave the Pipers a 42-38 lead.

On the ensuing possession, the Pipers' Zach Schwalbach intercepted a Gusties pass. But the Gusties stopped the Pipers on downs.

Instead of punting, the Pipers chose to take a safety with 40 seconds remaining. After the free kick, the Gusties advanced to the Hamline 42-yard line before time ran out.

Spriggs, a sophomore from St. Anthony, completed 29 of 41 passes, throwing three TDs in each half.

Jones caught five passes for 118 yards and a TD, and Nick Kampa caught seven passes for 112 yards for the Pipers.

Josiah Harris, who had seven receptions for 95 yards, caught three TD passes. Harris had TD receptions of 16, 23 and 22 yards to help the Pipers take a 21-17 halftime lead.

Augsburg 49, Carleton 17: Sam Keis passed for 209 yards and three TDs and Raymond Guyton Jr. threw a TD pass and caught a TD pass to lead the host Auggies past the Knights.

The Auggies (1-3, 1-1) scored 21 points in a three-minute span late in the first quarter. Isiah Malone's 25-yard interception return for a TD with 5:31 left in the first quarter opened the scoring.

Ethan Trujillo threw two TD pass for the Knights (0-3, 0-2).
