The Metropolitan Council's 2030 Transportation Policy Plan doesn't include a light rail line from Brooklyn Park to downtown Minneapolis and some additional Bus Rapid Transit lines in various parts of the metro.

The council is seeking comment on ammending the plan to include those the Bottineau Light Rail line and more Bus Rapid Transit corridors to improve reliable trips on arterial streets.. Meetings will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 7 at the Robbinsdale City Hall, 4100 Lakeview Avenue N., and 5 p.m. March 11 at Metro Transit headquarters, 560 6th Avenue N.

The Bottineau Transit way would include a 13-mile light rail line from Target Field to 97th Avenue in Brooklyn Park. It would run west along Olson HIghway, then turn north through Golden Valley, Robbinsdale, Crystal and Brooklyn Park. The line also would allow riders to connect to other transit corridors including the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Mall of America, the State Capitol and downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The Met Council take comments on light rail along the West Broadway Avenue in Brooklyn Park and Olson Memorial Highway alignment, which is the recommended Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the Bottineau Transitway. The alignment was recommended by the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA) and the cities in which the route is proposed.

The Council must select the LPA and amend it into the region's transportation plan for the project to advance into the next stages of study.

The council also will accept comments on additional Bus Rapid Transit lines. A study by Metro Transit identified that A BRT line would do well on Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street. It also examined the possibility of a BRT line on Penn, Fremont and Emerson Avenues to provide greater transit access to residents of north Minneapolis
