Hope you all have a good holiday weekend. If you're in town for part or all of the weekend, here are a few sales worth noting.

Mode (7788 Main St., Maple Grove, 763-391-6102) features designer fashions and accessories (mostly but not all womens) at some of the most aggressive markdowns in the TC. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the sale includes more than 500 units of Barefoot Dreams' samples at nearly 90 percent off. Everything will be $5 to $20, regularly $48 to $150, including men's, women's, kids, bamboo robes, hoodies and baby apparel.

Midwest Mountaineering 's 40th anniversary sale including the employee garage sale Saturday through Monday.

Outlet mall sales including Albertville Premium Outlets . The Bose store now has factory renewed Quiet Comfort 15 noise canceling headphones ($30 less than new). Check out the factory renewed prices on other popular products such as the Wave radio too. For additional savings at other stores, join the VIP Club free and print out coupons that are offered several times throughout the year. If you're a skeptic about the discounts at outlet malls, I'm with you. Once an item is on sale or clearance at an outlet, it can be a good deal. But thinking like a retailer helps. They know that Memorial Day will bring crowds, so if stuff doesn't sell this weekend, there is a good chance it will be marked down again by next weekend. Or it may sit around, overpriced, until the next holiday weekend, the 4th of July. That's an even better weekend for deals because it's summer post peak. Coming soon in Albertville: Calphalon Kitchen outlet opens in August.

Nordstrom's Half-yearly sale for women and kids is in progress. Some items can be shopped online and picked up in the Mall of America store, if they have it in stock.

Many of the best thrift stores in the Twin Cities discount everything 50 percent on Memorial Day, including Unique Thrift Store (Burnsville, Columbia Heights, New Hope, St. Paul and the sister store, Valu Thrift in Sun Ray Center in St. Paul, 651-702-5920) and Arc's Value Village (Brooklyn Center, 763-503-3534, New Hope and Richfield and St. Paul).

Finally, did you notice that Betty's Pies is now part of Restaurant.com? Not everyone is a fan of her pies, but if you are, buy a $10 gift certicate for $2 or a $25 for $5. I am not sure if you can use the coupon on takeout, but Betty's has at least a dozen pies each day from $16 to $18. Go to the site and use discount code FLAG to get the additional savings this weekend.

Here's one more tip for the weekend: Drive the speed limit. That ought to save you $100 or $200, maybe more.
