Maple Grove fall market hours

The Maple Grove Farmers Market's fall hours shrink slightly to 3-6 p.m. on Thursdays through Oct. 19 at its location outside of the Maple Grove Community Center, 12951 Weaver Lake Road. Oct. 19 also will be the market's annual trick-or-treat event. Children are invited to attend in costume and trick-or-treat at vendor booths. The winter indoor farmers market season begins Nov. 2, with the same 3-6 p.m. hours, but inside the Maple Grove Community Center. A series of 10 winter markets are planned up to May 2018. Urban Roots parties for its 20th

Urban Roots, the St. Paul nonprofit project that helps young people develop leadership, entrepreneurial and life skills through three food- and garden-based programs, is celebrating 20 years with a fundraising party Oct. 12 at Harriet Island Pavilion. In the past year, its gardening, beekeeping and conservation work has helped to restore 35,000 square feet of parkland, harvested 11,000 pounds of produce from urban garden sites and prepared 800 farm-grown meals, working with guest chefs such as Lucia Watson, Yia Vang and Marshall Paulsen. Chowgirls Killer Catering will provide the food, while local breweries will do the beverages. Eddie Wu, owner of Cook St. Paul, will emcee the evening, with opportunities for live and silent auctions. For tickets, visit bit.ly/UrbanRoots20yrs.

Cheetos from top to bottom

And in snack food news, could this be a coming trend?

This past summer, a pop-up restaurant in New York City opened for three days with this premise: Every menu item used Cheetos in some way. Yes, the Spotted Cheetah was sponsored by Frito-Lay, but was led by the Food Network's Anne Burrell. More than 1,000 people were on the waitlist for the 300 spots, eager to taste dishes such as Cheetos-crusted chicken Milanese, which the Washington Post called "a dish that sounds like the brainchild of an incredibly capable stoner." Other items: Flamin' Hot and White Cheddar Mac n' Cheetos, Purrfectly Fried Green Tomatoes and White Cheddar Cheetos, and Cheetos Sweetos Apple Crêpes. It's gone now, but Cheetos lovers can download a free cookbook with 11 recipes. Visit thespottedcheetah.com.
